Billericay fans were hoping for a bright start in 2006, but it did not happen. A near 3,000 crowd witnessed probably Billericay's worst performance of the season. This was Chelmsford's first game at their new Melbourne Park ground and they put in a good performance. Billericay never got going and did not put in the required effort. Billericay did however have the first chance when David Collins forced Gavin King into an early save. Alex Fiddes raced down the left wing and passed it for a cracking 20 yard shot from Jamie Richards, which proved to be the 1st goal at the new ground. Richards scored again in the second half to seal the win. A late Matt Game goal was an underserved consolation for Billericay. Ricky Millard had to make 3 consecutive good saves to stop the score being worse for Billericay. Millard was forced to save a Jamie Richards header, then a Michael Haswell header and then a save from the resulting corner. Danny Hockton had two headed chances, one was saved by Gavin King and the other missed the target with the goal at his mercy. Billericay fans will expect a huge improvement on Saturday when they travel to inconsistent Slough Town. |
